This page is about Patrick's main projects for the future, so the first section is for the cinema.

THEATRE, BOOKS ETC.   or   SCULPTURE PROJECTS

SECTION ONE: FOR THE CINEMA
Three major projects in order of priority.

I sometimes have a bad reaction to a film, especially when it is based on a novel I have read. I've already imagined the characters and landscapes, so I find the visual aspects really frustrating. All films should come from ideas based on that specific medium. For me TOY STORY is a good example of that. So all my own film projects are based on that principle.

CINEMA PROJECT NUMBER ONE
"YOUR PLACE OR MINE?"
Script & Design 1991 onwards...
YPOM/1-35. Sketches, etc., +Ref.No.NP/78 "The Girl in Yellow", an oil-painting accessible on the IMAGE page.

Each member of the family - half American, half French - find a secret door into a world of their own imagination, a place where dreams can become nightmares, paradise can become hell. But there is a happy ending, and this project - in need of an appropriate production company - certainly would be one of the most beautiful fantasy films ever made.

Synopsis brochures are available in English, French and German. "The Book of the Film" (photo-copy binding) gives the whole script as well as explanatory text and illustrations. This project was included in several exhibitions in Switzerland, especially "Chemins de Traverse" at "La maison d'Ailleurs", Yverdon-les-Bains. sponsored by ILFORD AG (Fribourg) in the year 2002.

CINEMA PROJECT NUMBER TWO
"COLOURED LIGHTS"
Script & Design 1991 onwards...
Sketches, etc. +Ref.No. SCL/13 "Queek - The First Ambassador".

The Earth is visited by a pair of tiny aliens of odd character, a species inspired by the "Queeks" from my story "The Dorbott of Vacuo". No threat to humanity. This pair of invaders are more like new pets or toys. This project is also in search of a potential producer. Synopsis brochures are available in English, French and German - as well as photo-copy bindings of the whole script including explanations and illustrations. The sculpture "The First Ambassador" was included in the Swiss exhibition (2002-2003), though unfortunately the electrical system could not be set up to enable visitors to make the Queek's eyes flash, etc. Patrick James Gyger (Manager of "La Maison d'Ailleurs", Yverdon) also managed to introduce myself (Patrick James Woodroffe) to Hans-Rudi Giger (designer for "Aliens"), who also has a permanent exhibition in the village of Gruyères. Three men with close names. See page "PAST" - SCULPTURE - "Le Bouclier de Mars".

CINEMA PROJECT NUMBER THREE
"CONTE DU FUTUR"
General Design 1991.
CF/1-25. Sketches in pencil and in colour, etc.

This project was launched in Milan by François Müller (Lutry, Switz.), the display mainly being huge enlargements of my tiny drawings. The originals were also included in many recent exhibitions, especially those relevant to Science Fiction.

SECTION TWO: THEATRE, BOOKS ETC.

"CRYSTAL BEACH"
MIKE OLDFIELD PROJECT 1996
CB/1-10 Drawings, mostly in A3 format.

I have always been a fan of Mike Oldfield ("Tubular Bells" etc.), so I was delighted when Mike called me in to produce drawings, ideas and brochures for the project, an interactive musical/visual computer hit.

"QUI EST LE ROI DE LA PLAGE?"
(Who is the King of the Beach?)

A musical comedy mainly for children, but certainly for their parents too. The texts are written in French only, the puns very English in style. The intention is mainly to produce this comedy both on a beach and in the sea somewhere on the French coast, but it can also be done on a stage indoors. Illustrated brochures are available to potential producers or publishers.

"VICTORIA"
ou
"LE LIT VOYAGEUR"

This dramatic theatre project, the story of a young girl's therapeutic dream experiences, is actually based on one of my own dreamworlds, a place where I have learnt to deal with real problems. The show was originally intended for France, but now the texts exist both in French and in English, so an illustrated brochure in either of these two languages is available to any potential producer or publisher.

SECTION THREE: SCULPTURE PROJECTS
This section actually excludes the most important, simply because my major Swiss project "La route des cloches" has a complete page of its own.
BELLS.

"TWIN HORNS"
SC/6 1998 Maquette. Height approx. 245mm.

A fibre-glass/resin maquette for a very ambitious project - the idea of linking two enemy states by two enormous towers through which citizens could climb over the sea from one country to another. The principle message is that horns are really only used for defence.

"THE SYMMETRY OF LOVE"
SC/9 Maquette 1999. Height approximately 220mm.

A fibre-glass/resin maquette for the drinking horns featured in my recent book "The Forget-me-not Gardener". In Gruyères castle the bride shares her wine with all the females, her groom shares his with all the males, after which - once they are both empty - the two horns are used as trumpets to celebrate the wedding ceremony. Because a FOUND COIN COLLECTION also features in the novel, my coins found in 2005 were included in the exhibition at Gruyères castle.

"LE BOUCLIER DU SOLEIL"
SC/10 Sketches: year 2000.

Étienne Chatton, "Conservateur du Château de Gruyères" was determined to get me to produce another sculpture for the Swiss castle, but while this project was still under discussion, Étienne Chatton was obliged to retire. He died at the end of the year 2007, so we shall see what happens next.

"ON THE CREST OF THE WAVE"
SC/11 Maquette. Hght.approx.245 mm.

This small fibre-glass/resin maquette (plus plasticine and wood) was my suggestion for the sculpture/fountain project for the central square in Truro, Cornwall. The project seems to have been dropped, so this idea is available for anywhere else.
